A lot of the blogs from the Kickin Off Christmas blog hop have new posts for day #2, so keep on hoppin!
Don't forget to post on each blog for more chances to win a Custom Crops $25 gift voucher to their store!
Once again let's start with some inspiration!
Every year I have a tradition of getting a photo in front of the tree with all 4 of my kids! And while it may not be perfect, and it is hard to get everyone to cooperate, and can get a bit stressful, it is worth it to see them chance through the years!
I started this page by designing the border in Design Studio with Winter Frolic and embossing that design on Ten Second Studio's metal sheets (colored side down) with the Chomas Creations embossing kit. I then flipped the border over and sanded the debossed (raised) side of the image with a burnishing block. This takes the color off the raised surface and leaves just the silver from underneath so it really POPS!
Next I cut out the title from Design Studio and layered that in a circle and added some Stickles to some of the letters.
The trees are designed with George in Design Studio to match the trees in my border, then I added Stickles to those as well.
Here is the completed page with me and my little angels!
I also wanted to add a card with the all new, available for pre-order Chomas Creations ENGRAVING tip! I've had a lot of questions on what the difference is between the engraving and embossing tip, so I figured I would answer that here! You can also find more information on the engraving tip here... Chomas Creations engraving tip
The EMBOSSING tip is an aluminum tip that works with an embossing mat on paper, vellum, and metal sheets to emboss an image. The tip is rounded to give the embossed look.
The ENGRAVING tip is an aluminum holder with a carbide tip. The carbide is an extremely hard metal, and it is ground to a sharp tip so that you can engrave, or etch on different surfaces such as hard or soft metal, clear cardstock, acrylic, and I've even engraved on Core'dinations cardstock.
Now here is the card I did! I thought wouldn't it be cool to engrave a snow scene onto the front of a clear cardstock card, but I couldn't find a snow scene I liked to work with. So I made my own in Make-the-Cut! I did have some tree doodlebats, but still no hill. So out came my Wacom tablet, and I drew my own hill and added the little trees to it! Then I put the engraving tip in the Cricut, and set the pressure to max, and using multi-cut 2, I engraved (etched) the winter scene.
The title is from Winter Frolic, and the papers are all Echo Park.
You should see these etched cards in person!!!
Now if you have read this far, you may just remember that I said I was going to do a give away somewhere on the blog, and here it is!! If you came back for day #2 of the hop, leave a comment on what you think of the new engraving tip, and if you could think of another surface you would like to see it engrave on!
One lucky person will be picked to win a Chomas Creations embossing kit! This includes the mat and embossing tip! And if you want to order before you know if you have won to be able to get the awesome sale, go ahead, and if you are chosen I will refund the cost of the embossing kit! Remember to leave contact info for me, and only one entry per person! I will use a random number generator to pick a winner!

This is an awesome product. I wonder if it would work on thin plastic/acrylic to give the etched glass effect?

WooHoo Amy! Another fab product! Love the look on the clear card stock. Would probably try it on old Cricut and Cuttlebug packaging too. (Love to recycle!) xxD
Love the card.
Might sound strange but could you use the tip to "engrave" a pattern on icing using the cake machine?
Love both projects. Especially the etched card. Would love to try it.
Wow! Cool card. And what a neat idea. I must say I am stumpped by what you could engrave on with your cricut besides metal or glasas. Hey what about that thin balsa wood? Or is that stuff too thick? TFS! Can't wait to see what else you come up with.
Great LO!

Great engraving tips, thanks for sharing
Love your green metal etching. Reminds me of art class in high school when we did that with a pointed stick on the metal. I would love to see more engraving on the Coredination's cardstock, with the raised parts sanded off. I love that paper. Thanks for a great hop and wonderful giveaways. You always have such wonderful ideas. Thanks for sharing and have a great Thanksgiving.

Oh My!!! Fabulous page and card!!
Love the look that the engraving tip makes on the clear cardstock. It's awesome! AS for another engraving surface, what about that thin wood that's like paper? engraved and inked would be uh-mazing I think! Thanks for the chance to win!
Your layout is fabulous! I love it! The engraving tip sounds wonderful and although I cant come up with something to engrave that you havent already tried, I love seeing what you do with them!

OMG I looove this! Your lo is beautiful!! The embossing makes such a difference and your card is perfect! I love the trees! Great job ;)
Nice idea with the engaving tip. Does it need a different may?
I think you should try using metal tpae for engraving and it would already be self=adhesive.

That layout is adorable. I cannot get my kids to sit still long enough to get a good one in. I love the engraving on the card. I think it would work great on clay as well.
I think I would like to try the embossing tip on foam sheets from Michaels. I think you could make some nice textured xmas ornaments .
patriciagrier@netscape.net
The engraving tip is too cool. I don't know what else it can engrave on ...... maybe aluminum foils. :)
I'm a newby.......can't ya tell?
Susie
Love the engraving tip! I would use thin metal to engrave military dog tag embellishments, pet tags embellishments, etc.
Love the engraving tip. Now I'll have to start keeping an eye out for things I can engrave.

The engraving is amazing...I am not sure what else, besides trying the co'ordinations paper you could use it on, but I'm sure you will come up with some amazing ideas from your visitors.
Cheers

Love the layout and the card. Think the engraving tip is going to be a must have. Not sure what else to use it on but can't wait to give it a shot on acrylic.

Love the new engraving tool. What a great project and I also love your Christmas card. What great work.
You can find me at SJ or smsparkin {at} hotmail {dot} come
Great cards and great ideas. As for other materials to engrave, what about shrinky dink plastic (before shrinking)then ink and shrink or as another said small metal charms to be used for embellishments or even jewelry.
