Back to school with Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder

It is that time of year again!  Time for my favorite commercial... It's the most wonderful time of the year, they're going back... back to school!  Where the dad is dancing down the aisles... hehe  They should really use a mom in that commercial!

Being I have 4 kids that go to school each year, I get a bit behind on these back to school layouts!  So this is from last year, my daughter on her way to kindergarten.  You can get the Design Studio file for this page here... back to school
I used the Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder to do the border and accents on this page on cork board.  Yes corkboard!!  There are so many surfaces out there that the mini Sharpies will write on that normal markers just can't handle!  This corkboard is by Quickutz.  They are 4x12 self adhesive sheets.
I used the Chomas Creations mini gel pen holder to make my own lined paper!  I used the file here for the horizontal lines, that I usually use for my journaling circles....  journaling circles  I drew all the lines in the Chomas Creations light blue glitter mini gel pen.
The back to school file has the vertical lines, I used the Chomas Creations red glitter mini gel pen for these.
This also made for some easy journaling on the page!
I designed the title with a shadow and cut it out of red and green paper.  The title is also on the back to school download.
Here is the completed layout!  The ribbon is Imaginesce.  And of course the patterned paper was made by me hehe!

Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder and vinyl!

Eeeek!  I almost forgot the winner of the Disney/Pixar blog hop!  Thank you for all the kind comments, and taking the time to let me know where you found out about Chomas Creations!
The winner is...
Judy!
Your card and the metal embossing are just awesome! I have been a follower for a while and know about your great product (on my bday wish list). I first met you on one of these hops:-)
Congrats Judy!

Ok, so I will admit I was excited about this idea, but not as excited as my daughter when she saw it!  I'm trying to get her to sort toys by matching bins, and of course I could just label them, but I thought, how cute would it be to use the actual logo from the toys?  And I've been on a vinyl kick lately, so I used google to search for each logo, then traced them in Make-the-Cut.  There were a lot more details to some of these designs then I thought, so I figured, why not draw those details with the Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holders instead?  When she saw them, she immediately told me she needed more for the rest of her toys, but this was a good start!

Party on card with Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder

Oh my, almost forgot hubby's birthday card this year!  This was actually a pretty quick one as I already had the card pre-cut and ready to go, so I just needed to decorate it!  You can see my tutorial for using the Chomas Creations embossing kit for making scored cards, as well as get the download here... scored cards
I used the Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder on the Colorbok metallic paper pack.  Look at the price on that pack, just $.99 for 2 12x12 sheets at Target!  It was down the scrapbook aisle!  This isn't really a metal sheet, but it does have a glossy metallic surface and is super easy to cut with the Cricut.

Here is the Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder on the metallic paper.  I used Design Studio and Birthday bash to make the guitar.

Don't forget the sale in the Chomas Creations store is still going on!  10% off your purchase of $30 or more using the code august10 at checkout!

100% boy with Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder

Who has mini Sharpie holders available for the Cricut?  I DO I DO!  lol  Gotta love them on metal sheets, vinyl, transparencies, vellum!  No smearing, no bleeding either!  And did you know they come in 24 different colors???
Here is a page of my youngest boy, who is ALL BOY!  Loving all the titles for boys on this cartridge, they so fit my Jack.  For this one I used the orange mini Sharpie on the Quickutz metal sheet.  I like using Design Studio for these kinds of designs, cause that way I can cut on one layer, and draw with another layer.
This is the layer for all of my cuts.  I load it up with scrap paper so I can get it all done in one try.

Here is the layer I have set up to do my drawing, I have it labeled draw layer.  Without removing the mat, I carefully remove the blade (don't move the blade carriage or the draw lines won't line up), set the pressure to minimum, and draw the draw page.

Then I layer all my cuts, and put together the page, here is the result!  You can download this file for use with Design Studio and Boys will be boys here... 100% boy file

I"m not tired, embossing and your mini SHarpies

I always joke that Jack has 2 speeds, go and sleep. That boy is always on the move, and moving that much must take its toll on a small boy! The funny thing is, he is never tired! Even when he is yawning and rubbing his eyes, he has an excuse!
I designed the title in Design Studio with Lyrical Letters, and added some circles like my background paper to it. So if you have a child like mine and would like the title, here it is... I'm not tired
I used silver embossing metal and my Chomas Creations embossing kit to emboss the title, then without removing the mat, I replaced the embossing tip with the mini Sharpie holder, and then hit cut in Design Studio again. The result is the mini Sharpie writing inside the embossed image! Pretty cool!

I picked up another one of my Chomas Creations mini gel pen journaling circles for the journaling on my page! I'm using them like crazy and need to make more!

And here is the finished layout, boy in his sleep speed!

Made in USA with Chomas Creations embossing/scoring kit

Well now, here we go! My very first ever blog hop! Hope you enjoyed your visit with Sarah Pink Cricut I'm so excited! I hope you are all loving what you see! It felt good to do a layout about what our family values most, especially on this occasion.
So want to know one of the most important things to me & my husband, something so important we are teaching it to our kids? Made in USA. Speaking of Made in USA, did you know that our mini gel pen, mini Sharpie, & micro Sharpie holders as well as our embossing kits are all Made in USA? Not only that, we are a small family business & some nights you will find our whole family around the table cleaning and assembling parts! Even my 2 littlest ones join in & help how they can.

So I made a layout about just how important Made in USA is to my family. This is a photo of us all on 4th of July in our 4th of July T's, ready to celebrate!
I wanted to try something different with the metal sheets, so I embossed my silver Ten Second Studios metal sheet with the Chomas Creations embossing kit, then without removing my mat, I took out the embosser & added the Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder! I then repeated the same design, with the Sharpie filling in the grooves! I think it turned out so cool! Key is to make sure your metal sheet is smoothed down very well, because sometimes with the embossing, areas start to raise a bit. That way the mini Sharpie won't write on the design where it isn't supposed to. That is what I did to my title & the star embellie.

For my flag, in Design Studio using Graphically Speaking, I added the little stars to the center of the flag. I added my metal sheet, colored side down to my embossing mat, & embossed my image. I then used a paper stump to make my stars POP! I then sanded off the raised image. I did the same thing for the flag part of my image.

My fav kind of tape to use to attach metal is the Terrifically Tacky Tape, once it is stuck down there is no removing it! Here is the finished page, and if you would like to read the journaling I will add it to the end of this post.

Such an important symbol to our family, those 3 words... made in USA. From our cars, to our living room & dining room furniture, to the pencils we buy the kids for school, we take pride in buying everything we can with those 3 words. Now we've started our own family business, keeping everything we can in the USA. In fact Grandpa Al manufacturers all of our parts in his pull barn. This whole business has had a trickledown effect, helping other small businesses in our area, and in the USA. We make sure to stress to our children just how important those words are, & hope they keep the same values of their parents. After all, they were made in USA as well! July 4th, 2010

Make your own patterned letters!
So I was laying in bed one night and couldn't fall asleep ( too much running through my head lately) and started to think about making my own patterns on letters with the Cricut pen holders. So the next morning I got up and made some designs to put on letters in Design Studio, and this is what I came up with! You can get the cut files and all directions on Custom Crops! Love layout
Of course those adorable kiddies are mine, taken over 3 1/2 years ago when they never sassed to each other!!!

Which pens & Sharpies work wih the Chomas Creations mini gel pen holder & mini Sharpie holder

Here is a list and some links of the kind of gel pens and Sharpie markers that work with these holders.
The Chomas Creations mini gel pen holder can use the 20 different colors of Chomas Creations mini gel pens, or the 12 pack of Staples brand mini gel pens for a total of 32 different colors!
The Chomas Creations mini gel pen holder is available for the Cricut or the Silhouette.

We have added the Chomas Creations mini gel pens in 2 different 10 packs!

So I was asked by my good scrappin friend Jessie if you could "write" on pictures and to give it a try for her. Well the mini Sharpies are permanent, so this is what I did! I did use multi-cut, to get it to draw twice. I think it worked out fantastically and I'm going to have to try again, so many ideas, so little time!

Thursday, October 01, 2009

So I've shared the news with lots of my friends and family, but I guess in case anyone missed it I should share it here as well! I was chosen to be on Custom Crops design team! WOHOOO! If there is one thing I love, it is designing scrapbook pages and such (ok, ok, love my kids and family to, blah blah blah). So here are some pages I have done for them already, and you can click on the links and see some directions on how I made them! Pretty cool!
Of course they are using the mini gel pen and mini Sharpie holders, so if you are looking for more ideas on how to use them, follow the links!!!

My sweet lil niece! I love her smiles! And how she runs up and gets all excited when she sees me hehe!
I used the mini Sharpie holder to outline Addi's nickname and to do the heart outlines, then used some Stickles over the top to make them really pop!!

Ok, had fun with this one! I made rectangles for the background with SCAL, and drew them with the mini Sharpie holder! Then designed the title and used the mini gel pen holder for that! I got this from a sketch at 52 sketches http://52sketches52weeks.ning.com/ , I can't resist a good sketch!
I'm starting to think the possibilities are endless with these holders!

The mini Sharpies and the mini Sharpie holder work beautifully on vinyl! Super simple project for my boys' door, it is a danger zone! The Keep Out is a fun font that is supposed to be wiggly and it did that wonderfully! And of course the smooth lines on the skull and crossbones came out fantastic as well!
