Vinyl & the Chomas Creations adjustable marker holder

Back to school is sneaking up on us quickly and I thought, why not make some fun labels for the kids' things?  So I did lol!
Did you know you can use Sharpies on vinyl and they won't smear??  Some of you may have seen my post about the new fluorescent Sharpies I found (if you missed it, it is right HERE)  I wanted to see how these Sharpies would work on the white vinyl, and when I showed my daughter she jumped up and down squealing, so I guess she liked it!  My son came running asking for some for him!

The fine point Sharpies will fit in the Chomas Creations adjustable marker holder for both the Silhouette and the Cricut Expression 2.  Vinyl is a glossy surface, which can cause smearing so I slow the speed to 5 for these, and of course you don't want to crush the tip of your Sharpie so use a thickness of 1.
I made these designs in Designers Edition of Studio.  I used a Lettering Delights thin font for the names and used the sketch feature in DE to change a regular oval to the loop de loop and the sketched oval design.  I then used an offset of the sketch for cutting around my design.  If you need to learn how to sketch a design then cut around it, I have a tutorial HERE.

Ok let me start by saying me and vinyl are not the best of friends... I need a better weeding tool for sure as the tip on mine broke off and I ended up weeding with a bent safety pin!!!  But I wanted it done lol!  This is my diffuser and I wanted something extra on it, so I found this saying and loved the way it looked, so retro, to go with my retro looking diffuser!  Now I'm sitting here diffusing stress away to calm my nerves after the vinyl incident!
And maybe getting up the energy to unpack my office as getting crafty felt so good today and I want to get back into it after this busy year!

Square 1 vinyl and the Chomas Creations adjustable holders

Guess who was asked to be a designer for Square1 adhesive backed fabric???  THIS GIRL!  hehe  Square1 is the un-vinyl.
Being I have been looking for a vinyl I like for a long time, I was happy to say, YES!  But of course before I try to say you just have to have something, I decided to take a few things for a test run!
My first stop was permanent vinyl on my daughter's water bottle.  I had tried a different brand vinyl and when I washed the water bottle 2 of my 4 letters came off.  I added the white permanent vinyl to my daughter's water bottle and washed it a few times and let her take it to school.  A couple of weeks later and the vinyl is still going strong!
Here is another fun thing I did with the permanent vinyl. We have a problem in our house with the toilet seat getting lifted by the boys.  So far the reminder worked!  Yes I'm surprised! hehe

The coolest vinyl that Square1 has to offer?  Has to be the GLOW IN THE DARK!  I thought it would be fun to put it on the ceiling over my son's bunk bed.  But when he wakes in the morning I wanted him to still be able to see something fun on his design, so I added "love you, mommy" with the Chomas Creations adjustable marker holder and a fine point, original Sharpie marker.
It is easy to add permanent marker to your vinyl.  Here is tutorial showing just how I did it!

Highlight your entire image (a), go to cut line settings (b), click no cut (c).

Highlight the image you want to draw (1), go to cut line settings (2) and click on cut.

Add your Sharpie to the Chomas Creations adjustable marker holder.  Draw your image.  With Sharpies you want a slower speed (4) and a very small thickness (1) so you don't crush the tip of your Sharpie, and so it doesn't smear.

Again highlight your entire image (4), click cut (5).

Now highlight the image you don't want to cut (6) and click no cut (7).

Take out your marker holder and replace your blade. With the glow in the dark vinyl I used a blade depth of 3, a thickness of 10 and a speed of 8.
I weeded out the extra vinyl but kept the inside letters for "I love you".
I added it to  the ceiling above my son's bed.  He loves it!

Here it is at night. Man is glow in the dark hard to get a picture of!
The extra "I love you" went next to my daughter's bed. Here it is during the day and at night.

Square1 printable vinyl

Recently I was given some Square1 printable vinyl to give a try.  Let me first tell you that it is like no other printable vinyl I have seen.  First off it is textured, and for those that know me, you know I love my texture (ok so I've been referred to as a texture snob, hehe).  2nd, it is nice and thick!  And 3rd it is removable and replacable.  2 and 3 go together because you can move it over and over again!
I did use mine with some cute print and cut images from Silhouette.  My printer worked awesome with it, and as you can see the close up, the colors are nice and bright!  (I did start to take the top sticker off and realized I should take a pic first, so I had to stick it back on, that is why it has that lump!)
My idea was to cover up this old sticker that won't come off the glass on my window from the 1950's but I didn't make it quite big enough!  I thought as the kids walked out of the door everyday they could see these cute messages!
So if you are looking for some awesome printable vinyl to use with your Silhouette or even your Imagine, Square1 is the place to go for sure.  I think I may just have to order more as I had more ideas I didn't get to use!  You can also check out the Square1 facebook page here for more ideas...  facebook page

Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holder and vinyl!

Eeeek!  I almost forgot the winner of the Disney/Pixar blog hop!  Thank you for all the kind comments, and taking the time to let me know where you found out about Chomas Creations!
The winner is...
Judy!
Your card and the metal embossing are just awesome! I have been a follower for a while and know about your great product (on my bday wish list). I first met you on one of these hops:-)
Congrats Judy!

Ok, so I will admit I was excited about this idea, but not as excited as my daughter when she saw it!  I'm trying to get her to sort toys by matching bins, and of course I could just label them, but I thought, how cute would it be to use the actual logo from the toys?  And I've been on a vinyl kick lately, so I used google to search for each logo, then traced them in Make-the-Cut.  There were a lot more details to some of these designs then I thought, so I figured, why not draw those details with the Chomas Creations mini Sharpie holders instead?  When she saw them, she immediately told me she needed more for the rest of her toys, but this was a good start!

No limits with Chomas Creations embossing kit

Somehow this weekend I got to SCRAP! Don't ask me how, as I juggled it between running errands, cleaning the basement, and being a mom! I just couldn't wait to show this, and knew everyone would enjoy it!
Silhouette makes a fuzzy vinyl that you can EMBOSS!!! It looks sooo cool! The first pic doesn't do it justice, so I took a close up! You can see the texture in the fuzzy vinyl! For more info on the embossing kit, looky here... embossing kit
Let me know what you think!

The mini Sharpies and the mini Sharpie holder work beautifully on vinyl! Super simple project for my boys' door, it is a danger zone! The Keep Out is a fun font that is supposed to be wiggly and it did that wonderfully! And of course the smooth lines on the skull and crossbones came out fantastic as well!
